Flowering Crab Trees

Few ornamental trees can compare to the flowering crabs. Their fragrant and colourful blossoms in spring are followed by colorful fruits that attract birds in early winter. Some have colored foliage as well. Several have edible fruit used for jellies and preserves. Our crab selections have been chosen for their hardiness and scab resistance, a disease that plagues many crabs.

Offering four season's of beauty. Masses of sugar-white spring flowers, excellent crisp green summer foliage, and long-lasting fruit in the autumn and winter. One of the most disease resistant being produced today.

This flowering crabapple derives it's name from it's flowers; from pale pink buds open sugar-white, fragrant flowers. Total sweetness! Red persistent fruit follows on this very disease resistant variety. It's a bit smaller than some other flowering crabs, topping out at less than 20' tall and 15' wide, so if an oval form patio tree with fragrant white blooms is what's desired, Sugar Tyme would be a nice selection.

The vigorous tree grows upright with spreading willowy branches and has reddish-green, dense foliage. It is resistant to scab, cedar apple rust, mildew and fireblight. Some crab apples can easily compete with Japanese ornamental cherries as far as the beauty and colours of their flowers. This is the case of ´Royal Beauty´. It is a small tree growing about 2.5m tall, with weeping, somewhat narrow crown. In the spring it brings a profusion of deep pink to light purple flowers. Young leaves are deep burgundy, turning to dark green throughout the season but keeping the purple shade on the underside.
This is an ideal tree for small-sized gardens where it will be an eye-catcher in the spring when in full bloom, same as in the summer when it is fully foliaged. Crab apples are maintenance-free, weeping forms are not supposed to be pruned. Occasional fruits are non-edible. It likes humus rich and permeable soil.

A simply all over beautiful red-pink flowering crab. Red buds produce pale pink blooms, fading to white as flowers mature. Followed by red fruit approximately the size of a cherry. This tree does well in most soil, but will be more attractive if fed peat and compost. A favorite of many growers and arborists, Sargent crabapple has a unique size and form, growing as a dense, mounded shrub rather than a tree. Its flowers are fragrant, light pink in bud, opening to pure white. The fruits are small, shiny, bright red and a favored food for birds. Although it flowers heavily only in alternate years, the many attributes of the Sargent crabapple offset this potential drawback. The tree grows 6 to 10 feet tall and almost twice as wide. A great choice as a scentrepiece or for a small yard.
